Sustainable Polypropylene Food Packaging
Polypropylene is considered one of the safest commercial plastics on the market for several reasons. While many types of plastics contain BPA or harmful chemicals, polypropylene is BPA-free and FDA-approved for food contact, which has made it a popular packaging choice for many food products—such as our synthetic bacon board. Polypropylene also has a high heat tolerance, which has led to its usage in microwavable food packaging. The Environmental Protection Agency has labeled polypropylene as a safer choice than other types of plastic.
An estimated 48 million pounds of traditional bacon L-board goes into U.S. landfills each year. Converting to a more sustainable, recyclable board can have a positive impact on landfill volumes. Recyclable
Whereas traditional bacon packaging is not considered recyclable and ends up as waste in landfills, SBB is polypropylene-based, which makes it 100% recyclable. Polypropylene can be collected, sorted and cleaned in the same manner as other recyclables.

Superior Print Durability
Traditional bacon board can absorb moisture and grease, but the polypropylene composition of our SBB is significantly more durable when it comes to moisture resistance. Synthetic bacon board is nonabsorbent and grease-resistant, which means the packaging and visual branding stays vibrant. The polypropylene used to make SBB can be white on one side to facilitate the easy printing of advertising logos and graphics, while the other side can be color pigmented to match company branding.

Allows High-Pressure Processing for Non-Pork Bacon Types
High-pressure processing (HPP) is a cold sterilization process that uses extremely high-water pressures up to 87,000 psi to eliminate pathogens in food. This process is particularly used for non-pork bacon products, such as turkey, chicken, beef, or plant-based bacon substitutes. Profol SBB is uniquely durable and able to withstand this sterilization process. HPP doesn’t alter the taste, texture or quality of foods and extends retail shelf life up to three times longer than traditional preservation techniques.
